Enabling Development Mode

During the website development process, protecting your test site from prying eyes and accidental interactions is paramount. It's a common practice to shield test websites from search engine indexing and unintended customer activity.

One effective way to achieve this is by enabling Development Mode.

In this blog, we'll guide you through the simple steps to activate Development Mode, ensuring your test website remains secure and exclusive. Let’s dive in!

In your website's admin area, access the Settings, Configuration, and My Store tabs. Here, you'll find the vital functionality of Development Mode. Click on the Edit button to initiate the setup process.

  1. Toggle Development Mode: Click on the 'True' radio button to activate Development Mode. This action serves as the first line of defense, allowing only authorized access.
  2. Set Up Authentication: To further fortify your test site, establish an authentication username and password. This ensures that only individuals with the designated credentials can enter.
  3. Save Changes: Seal the deal by clicking on the 'Update' button. Your Development Mode is now active and your test website is shielded from unauthenticated visitors.

Now, anyone attempting to access your test website on the front end will encounter a login prompt. Only those with the correct credentials can explore the site, maintaining the integrity of your testing environment.

Enabling Development Mode offers peace of mind, allowing you to refine your website away from prying eyes. Stay secure, stay focused on development!
