The Settings of E-commerce Tracking for Google Tag Manager (GTM)

Effective use of Google Tag Manager (GTM) is crucial for advanced e-commerce tracking. In this guide, we'll walk you through the necessary steps to set up GTM for comprehensive e-commerce data gathering. With precise configuration, you can enhance your analytics and make informed decisions. Let's get started.

1. Creating a GTM Account:

  • Provide your website's address for container setup. Accept the service agreement.

  • Upon registration, you'll receive a GTM code (e.g., GTM-TG63T3S) for installation.

In our case, we set up the container via the admin area on the following page.

It is necessary to indicate the code only like GTM-TG63T3S.

While setting up GTM in the admin area, there is no need to use Google Analytics.

2. Configuring GTM for E-commerce Tracking:

  • Set up a new TAG in GTM for Google Analytics integration.

  • Choose Universal Analytics in Tag Configuration

  • Select Track Type as Page View.
  • Enable overriding settings in this tag and input your Google Analytics ID (e.g., UA-84506429-1).
  • Navigate to "More Settings," click on "Ecommerce," choose "True," and activate "Use Data Layer."

  • Set the trigger as "All Pages" for general information gathering.
  • Choose either DOM Ready or Window Loaded for E-commerce data transfer.
  • Avoid selecting multiple types simultaneously.

3. Saving and Activating GTM:

  • Save the configured settings. The saved configuration will appear in your GTM dashboard.

The possible look of the window after saving.

  • To activate the container, click on "SUBMIT," provide the necessary details, and then click "PUBLISH."

4. Enabling E-commerce Tracking:

  • Activate the Ecommerce Tracking module on your website. If both Google Analytics and GTM are active, choose the appropriate option when prompted.

5. Configuring Enhanced Ecommerce:

  • Enable the option for obtaining enhanced ecommerce data to display comprehensive e-commerce information in Google Analytics.

By following these steps, you've optimized your e-commerce tracking setup, empowering your business with valuable insights. Make sure to regularly monitor your analytics for actionable data that can drive your online strategy. Happy tracking!
